Green Breeze Fashion Show for Land Conservation
The Uptown Group is thrilled to announce that Green Breeze Fashion Show for Land Conservation generated over $10,000 for The Greening of Detroit and The Community House!
On Saturday, July 24, 2010, TUG hosted Green Breeze Fashion Show for Land Conservation at Royal Oak Music Theatre.
More than 300 people attended this first-time event, which featured the autumn/winter collection of award-winning eco designer, Jeff Garner of Prophetik. Garner’s romantic, all sustainable line, “Southern Shores,” featured flowing gowns and Civil War-inspired jackets adorned with antique buttons. The pieces, all produced in the United States, are created from natural materials, including Greenspun fleece, herringbone hemp, peace silk, and elephant-painted hemp jersey; they are dyed with plants such as indigo. The Show featured lovely Michigan models, including celebrity model, Alexandra Rush.
Garner’s first-ever trip to Detroit included a tour of several urban farms, community gardens, and outdoor classrooms created through the work of The Greening of Detroit. Garner, a world traveler, commented after the Show that his trip was inspiring as Detroit is the first truly “green” city he has visited. The proceeds from this event will be used to further the works of The Greening of Detroit and The Community House, as they labor to create a unique tapestry of natural beauty and urban living in the City of Detroit.
Green Breeze Fashion Show for Land Conservation, and Garner’s entire weekend in Detroit, were filmed as part of an upcoming documentary by producer Lani Netter – watch for it in theatres! Additionally, the latest edition of StyleLine Magazine will feature an article about Garner, his work, and his message of sustainable and ethical design.
